SHANGANA RIVER CLUB – FEAST OF CULTURE –  near HAZYVIEW

Nestled amongst lush indigenous trees adjacent to the Sabie River comes the latest venture from Hippo Holow Country Estate.    Hippo Hollow in conjunction with the local community have come together to provide a Feast of Culture!  The River Club offers not just a meal but a blend of history and entertainment under the African night sky.

Would be explorers are invited to follow the sound of beating drums through the path of flaming torches towards an enchanting evening the Shangana way.    Welcomed by the Numzaan with a traditional brew of Mageu, a home brewed Maize Beer, guests are enlightened on the ways and history of the Shangana people and the origins of the Hippo, the other inhabitants of the Shangana River Club.

After the hand-washing ritual local women will braid your hair or paint your face in the traditional fashion.  The evening’s entertainment of traditional songs and dances are provided by the local orphanage, Ronaldsi Youth Cultural Traditional Dancers.   The orphanage provides shelter for abandoned street children who are educated in their traditional and reunited with their roots in order to preserve for their future.    Each dance has a unique song and attached to each song is a proverb or story which is narrated by the Chief.
